Yee Sang, also known as "Prosperity Toss" or "Lo Hei," is a traditional Chinese New Year dish that symbolizes good luck, prosperity, and abundance. It's a colorful and refreshing salad that is often enjoyed during the festive season. 

Ingredients:

1. For the Salad:

  • 1 large carrot, julienned
  • 1 large radish, julienned
  • 1 cucumber, julienned
  • 1 small pomelo, peeled and segmented (or substitute with grapefruit)
  • 1 small green apple, julienned
  • 1 small red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 small yellow bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup shredded white and purple cabbage
  • 1 cup crispy fried wonton strips or crackers
  • 1 cup of Amazin’ Graze Salted Gula Melaka Granola 

2. For the Fish (Optional):

  • 200g raw salmon or tuna, thinly sliced (sashimi-grade)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon lime or lemon juice

3. For the Dressing:

  • 4 tablespoons plum sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sweetened lime or lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper

4. For Garnish:

  • Chopped peanuts
  • Sesame seeds

 

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Fish (if using): In a bowl, combine the sliced fish with soy sauce, sesame oil, and lime or lemon juice. Let it marinate for a few minutes.

2. Arrange the Salad Ingredients: Place each of the julienned vegetables, pomelo segments, and apple around a large serving platter.

3. Prepare the Dressing: In a small bowl, mix together the plum sauce, sweetened lime or lemon juice, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, Chinese five-spice powder, and white pepper. Adjust the sweetness and tanginess to your liking.

4. Assemble the Yee Sang: Just before serving, arrange the marinated fish on top of the vegetables.

5. Drizzle the dressing over the salad.

6. Toss and Mix: Invite everyone to stand around the table and use their chopsticks to toss the ingredients together while saying auspicious phrases for good luck. The higher you toss, the more prosperity it signifies!
